Collection Completeness Tracking

Working toward a complete set? Completeness tracking shows you exactly how close you are. Pick an official set, and Magpie compares it against your collection — showing your progress, listing the cards you're missing, and turning that missing list into a wishlist with one click.

Completeness tracking is currently available for trading card collections, using official Magic: The Gathering set data from Scryfall.

Which Collections Can Track Sets?

The Track Set button appears on collections that Magpie recognizes as trading card collections:

  • Collections created from the Trading Cards template
  • Collections whose custom fields include trading-card details like set and card number

Smart collections and wishlists cannot track sets.

Tip: If you have an existing card collection that doesn't show the Track Set button, open Collection Settings > Custom Fields and use Apply a Template to apply the Trading Cards template. This adds the template's fields without changing any fields you already have.

Tracking a Set

  1. Open your trading card collection
  2. Click Track Set in the collection toolbar
  3. Search for a set by name or code (e.g., "Zendikar" or "znr") — each result shows the set's code, card count, and release year
  4. Click Track next to the set you want

Magpie fetches the set's full card list and compares it against your collection. You can track up to 10 sets per collection, each measured independently.

Viewing Your Progress

Once you're tracking at least one set, a Set Completeness section appears on the collection page. For each tracked set you'll see:

  • A progress bar and count, e.g. 187 of 280 • 66.8%
  • View missing — Expand to see every card you don't have yet, with its card number, name, rarity, and image
  • When you own every card, the panel celebrates with Set complete!

Click Refresh at the top of the section to recalculate after adding new cards.

How Magpie Knows Which Cards You Own

Magpie matches your items against the set using the details already on your cards — the set, card number, and name fields. Cards added with auto-fill from Scryfall match automatically. Hand-entered cards without a card number are matched by name instead; when this happens, the panel shows how many cards were "matched by name" so you know the match is approximate.

Owning extra copies of a card doesn't change your progress — each card in the set counts once.

Generating a Wishlist from Missing Cards

Turn your missing list into a wishlist in one step:

  1. Expand View missing on a tracked set
  2. Click Add all to wishlist
  3. Choose where the cards should go:
    • Existing wishlist — Pick one of your wishlists from the list
    • New wishlist — Enter a name and Magpie creates it for you
  4. Click Add to Wishlist

Each missing card is added as a wishlist item, pre-filled with its name, set details, and image. Cards already in the target wishlist are skipped, so you can run this again later without creating duplicates.

Stop Tracking a Set

  1. In the Set Completeness section, click the X on the set's card
  2. Click Stop Tracking to confirm

Your items are not affected — only the progress display is removed. You can track the set again at any time.

Limits

  • You can track up to 10 sets per collection
  • Wishlist generation adds up to 500 cards at a time (very large sets are truncated, and Magpie tells you if that happens)
  • Your normal item limits still apply — if a wishlist hits its item limit, some cards may fail to add (see Subscriptions & Billing)

Mobile App

Completeness tracking works the same way on the mobile app:

  1. Open a trading card collection
  2. Tap Track a set (or the completeness panel if you're already tracking sets)
  3. Search and track sets, view progress bars, browse missing cards, and generate wishlists just like on the web
