Public Profiles & Community ​

Magpie is more fun with other collectors. Public profiles let you show off your public collections, discover other collectors, and follow the ones you like — with blocking and reporting tools to keep the community safe.

Your Public Profile ​

Every Magpie user has a public profile page at magpie.services/u/yourusername. It shows:

  • Your display name, username, and avatar
  • Your bio
  • Your public collections — with their cover images, descriptions, tags, and item counts
  • Your achievements — badges you've earned by cataloging, curating, and connecting (see the full list and your progress under Analytics on your dashboard)

Only public collections appear on your profile. Private collections, and collections you've shared with specific people by email, are never shown. If you have no public collections, visitors simply see "No public collections yet."

Editing What Others See ​

Your profile content comes from your account settings:

  1. Click your avatar in the top-right corner and select Profile
  2. Update your Display Name, Username, Bio, and Avatar
  3. Click Save

Usernames use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens — your username is also your profile's web address. See Account & Settings for details.

Showcasing Your Favorite Collections ​

Pin up to 4 collections to the top of your profile in a highlighted Showcase section:

  1. On your dashboard, click the ⋯ (More options) button on a collection's card
  2. Select Add to showcase (or Remove from showcase to unpin)

Showcased collections appear first on your profile with a pin badge, before the rest of your public collections. Only discoverable collections can be showcased — the option appears in the menu once a collection's visibility is set to Discoverable. A small pin marker on your own collection cards shows you which ones are currently showcased.

Sharing Your Profile ​

Your profile page is a regular web link — anyone can view it, even without a Magpie account. Share magpie.services/u/yourusername anywhere you like.

Viewing Other Collectors' Profiles ​

You can reach another collector's profile in a few ways:

  • Click the owner's name or avatar on any public collection page
  • Open their profile link directly (magpie.services/u/theirusername)
  • Find them through recommended users and the Discover section on the mobile app — see Search & Discovery

From their profile you can browse their public collections and click any collection to explore its items. If they've shared collections with you, those appear in a Shared with You section at the top — visible only to you.

Following Collectors ​

Following lets you keep up with collectors whose collections you enjoy.

Finding Collectors ​

  • Search: type a username or display name into the search box on the Discover tab — matching collectors appear above the collection results
  • Follower lists: tap the follower or following counts on any profile to see who follows whom, and jump to their profiles
  • Shared collections: collections shared with you show who shared them — click their name to visit their profile
  • Only collectors with public profiles can be found this way

Open a collector's profile and click or tap Follow. Click again to unfollow. Profiles show follower and following counts, so you can see how popular a collector is at a glance. Following works the same on the web and in the mobile app.

Controlling Who Can Follow You ​

By default anyone can follow you, but you can require approval instead:

  1. Go to Profile > Preferences > Privacy
  2. Set Follow requests to Open (Anyone can follow) or Approval Required

With Approval Required on, anyone who taps Follow on your profile sees a Requested state until you decide. Your pending requests appear:

  • On the web, under Settings > People
  • On mobile, under Settings > Privacy > People

The same place lists everyone you follow (with one-click unfollow), your followers, and your blocked users — even if your own profile is private.

You'll get a notification when someone follows you or requests to follow you, and requesters are notified when you approve (you can tune these under Notifications > Social in your preferences). Denying is always quiet — the requester isn't told, and they can ask again later. Pending requests don't count toward your follower numbers.

Blocking a User ​

If you don't want any interaction with a particular user, you can block them:

  1. Open their profile page
  2. Click Block
  3. Confirm

Blocking a user:

  • Hides their content from you
  • Prevents them from interacting with your content
  • Automatically unfollows them if you were following

To unblock someone, go to Profile > Settings > People and find the Blocked Users list — click Unblock next to their name and you'll be able to see their content again.

Reporting Content ​

If you come across content that violates Magpie's rules — spam, harassment, inappropriate content, impersonation, or copyright violations — you can report it:

  1. Click Report on a user's profile page or a public collection page — or hover over an item in a public collection and click the flag icon to report just that item
  2. Select a Reason from the list
  3. Optionally add details to help the moderation team understand the issue
  4. Click Submit Report

Reports are reviewed by Magpie's moderation team. Please report responsibly — false reports may result in action against your own account.
